Good evening (and sorry for the delayed post)! It's been quite a wild week for me - with grad school and tons of events at work and trying to make (secret) Valentine's crafts for Drew, I've been stretched a little thin! But I'm still so excited about tonight's post - I'm sharing a little love story about a boy and a girl - and a mix CD :) Read on for more, my darlings!
Drew and I are, unequivocally, music people. In fact, the entire foundation of our relationship is based on a mutual love of music - talking about it, singing it, playing it, going to shows, making mix CD's - we love it all. I've told Drew this story many times, but I can pinpoint the exact moment I fell for him. We had been working together at a movie theater for almost a year and, one April night, a bunch of us were hanging out on the roof of the theater - think of a group of "Empire Records"-type misfits. We were sitting under the stars and he mentioned that he liked Elliott Smith (one of my all-time favorite artists). We talked about "Bottle Up and Explode," "Say Yes," and "Between the Bars"...and by the end of the night, I was in love.
Cut to a few years later and we were engaged (!!!) and planning our wedding in the best way we knew how - by being ourselves! So, when it came time to pick a favor, it was easy - Mix CD! Because tomorrow is Valentine's Day (and I'm sure many of you will be curling up with your sweetheart!), I thought it might be fun to share our very special wedding mix so you can enjoy it with your special someone!
Without futher ado, the Katie and Drew Wedding Mix - June 18th, 2011:

Drew and I grew up on The Beach Boys, so when it came time to choose a song for the groomsmen to enter to - it was a no brainer! I still tear up when I remember hearing this song and knowing that I was about to marry my best friend.
Drew has given me an exceptional Ska-ducation over the past four years - so it seemed fitting that he would select this song specifically for our wedding mix. Plus the lyrics sum us up nicely!
#3 - I Will - The Beatles
Drew put this on a mix for me when we were dating and it's felt like our song ever since - it's like John and Paul and George and Ringo made it just for us.
I was a recent convert of The Avett Brothers around the time we were planning our wedding, and this song was so cheerful and full of life and love that it had to be included. "It's not the chase that I love - it's me following you!"
I remember very cleary texting the lyrics to this song to Drew as I sat in a computer science class - he responded with "Nothing else will do - I gotta have you." Swoon.
Although this comes from the most depressing movie I have ever seen - I'm looking at you, "Blue Valentine" - this song is sweet and tender. Read up on the history of it's creation - it's fascinating!
This was the only song that Drew was insistent we have at our wedding - and I didn't fight him (not even a little!). We've danced to this song many times and it stills warms my heart to hear it.
#8 - God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
This one was my only "must have," and we exited the sanctuary after the ceremony to this song. We took our first steps as a married couple to the harmonious sounds of The Beach Boys - it just doesn't get any better than that.

#9 - Gold In The Air Of Summer - Kings Of Convenience
One night, when we'd been dating a few months, I was sleeping in the car as Drew drove me home from a date. He sang me this song quietly from the driver's seat. Top five all-time relationship moments.

#10 - 12:59 Lullaby - Bedouin Soundclash
Drew put this song on a mix for me back in 2010 and it's always been one of my favorites. I tried not to get home too late from dates, so this song reminded me of my self-imposed curfew... It was the "Closing Time" by Semisonic of our relationship ;)

#11 - Lion's Man - Iron and Wine
This was a late addition to the wedding mix - and I'm so glad we added it! It's slow and sweet and romantic...and let's be honest, it makes me a little sleepy! But the beauty of Iron and Wine's music will always remind me of my sweetheart.

#12 - Let My Love Open The Door - M. Ward
When you combine two things I love - this song and M. Ward - I am totally on board.

Another ska tune, this one has been a part of our love since the beginning. I've known Dan Potthast almost as long as I've known Drew, and they both are pretty outstanding guys!
#14 - Eyes - Rogue Wave
Our song. Our first dance song. Our first love song. Our always and forever song. I love you, Drew!
What do you guys think? Do any of these songs fit you and your sweetie? Would you ever make a mix as your wedding favor? Or even a mix that tells someone how you feel? I'd love to hear from you!
Until next time, my darlings!
