Ok, not like a "cayenne pepper/lemon juice/no food" kind of cleanse (that ain't my scene), but more of "clear my system of salt/sugar/junk" kind of cleanse.
It's called the Look Better Naked Two Day Cleanse and it's from the editors of Women's Health Magazine. It only features good old-fashioned healthy ingredients and claims to hit your body's "reset" button in an effort to ease the transition into healthier eating. It also claims to help you lose all the water weight and bloat associated with a high-fat, high-salt diet (similar to the one I was on all summer - whoops!).
It almost sounded too good to be true! But I gave it a shot for my Test Drive Tuesday - here's the plan I used for two days last week:
|You can download the PDF here|
1. Green Tea is actually not bad! I'll admit - I have never enjoyed tea and I'm a two lattes a day kind of girl. But shocking my system by cutting out sugar and salt was a lot easier with a little caffeine to look forward to. I drank it sans sweetener or lemon - just straight up. It's got antioxidants and can help prevent cancer and heart disease. And seven days later, I'm still drinking two cups a day!
2. Flavor infused Olive Oils and Vinegars are your friend! I used garlic and herb olive oil to flavor up my protein and apricot vinegar to jazz up my salads. Without salt to overwhelm your taste buds, the flavors really stand out!
3. Start rethinking portion sizes! I was convinced this wouldn't be enough food - but I found that I wasn't hungry... I was craving! I won't lie, the first night was a special kind of torture. I wanted ice cream, coffee, and potato chips - in that order. But once I got through it (and the sugar headaches), I felt more energized, lighter, and happier. I kid you not - getting rid of junk made me noticeably happier. I think we forget the effect that diet can have on our mood.
And the results? I lost 6.7 pounds in two days (largely water weight), but 7 days later I'm still 5.2 pounds down (thanks to continued healthy eating - though not quite as restricted as the cleanse). I feel so clear-headed and I'm not a slave to my Starbucks addiction anymore. I'd call this a huge success!
But what do you guys think? Have you ever done a cleanse? Would you try this one? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Until next time, my darlings!
